I can hardly believe I am just weeks away from having this boy. I can say that we are ready for him (in many ways). The movement I am feeling now makes me think that baby Jacobs is preparing for karate class (constant and sometimes sharp jabs). We have completed the Bradley birthing classes and Mike is reading the book nightly while asking me funny questions like "what do you want to do while we are in the late 1st stage of labor?" Funny...I don't know...I've never done it before? I am definitely doing some funny things to prepare, like yesterday I bought the ingredients to bake a cake. People have told me that since your first baby takes awhile to come that you should take your mind off the early stages of labor by baking a birthday cake. I think I will bake cupcakes instead. Since we plan to stay at home as long as we can, I am curious if anyone has any laboring at home tips?

I thinking baking a b-day cake is a great idea, I think I will steal that! Make sure the distractions you plan are simple and take some thought but not a lot. Short walks are great (stay on your feet as much as possible!), watching stupid TV shows while on a birthing ball or in childs pose, write a letter to your baby, play card games, pack or re-pack your bag for the hospital, spend time int the nursery. I am so excited for you! I can't wait for my own labor:0)
You look great, and I wish I had suggestions for you other than walking and organizing/ cleaning last minute things... hanging in the baby's room and going through the closet just for fun... do squats (just kidding) love you, and cant wait for little boy jacobs to arrive!
Ha! I bought ingredients to bake a "birthday" cake for mine too, but my labor was sooo fast that I didn't have time to make it. How funny... must be a Bradley thing. My only suggestion for you is to walk and walk and walk. That was only thing that took my mind off the pain (yes, it is painful but you CAN endure it!) and it really helps things progress, which is a good thing! Also, be open to trying different things (i.e. sitting on an exercise ball, being on all 4's, sitting in the bath, etc.) because you may not know what feels good until you try it. I was surprised that I did not want to labor in the bed. I thought that would be comfortable, but standing up was actually way more comfortable. You are going to do great! Remember my favorite pregnancy quote, "The secret about childbirth is not that it is painful, but that women are STRONG".
I love the quote Wendy had. Once you do it, you will be shocked at how strong God made you. And yep, take lots of walks and, I too passed lots of time by watching movies, eating and playing card games. Just don't be afraid to have people around...the right people. Those people that will make things fun and low key. Only super close family or friends. My mom and sister took turns rubbing my back and feet. Who can beat that? You can do it. Memorize a bible verse to think on during transition. That is the only way God gave me strength and peace. Love ya, Deb
