My parents came over today to celebrate the birthday of both Jackson and my mom! We opened a bottle of champagne which I had been waiting for - for 9 MONTHS! YEAH!

Tuesday was my 38 week appointment with my midwife. BTW my midwives were so awesome – loved them! Linda (MW) felt my baby’s position (which had not changed in at least 3 weeks). She said, “I study baby’s positions and your baby is in a good position but it could be better.” He was head down, his back along the right side of my belly. Her prediction was that my water would break first (yeah right) and that it would be a hard, fast labor. She said either try to move the baby to the left or be prepared for hard and fast labor! She also said I was 2 cm dilated and asked if I wanted her to sweep my membranes – I said – absolutely not. I am not ready for this baby to come quite yet.
Tuesday night I went home and had Mike massage my belly just like she said. Lightly encouraging baby’s back to the left. After 5 minutes of messaging I felt the babies head drop and it was like he clicked into place. A moment later, as I laid there in bed, I felt a hot rush of water. I could not stop it! It was a complete rush and my face lit up at Mike. He knew to look down and sure enough…the bed was soaked. It kept rushing and I could not move for fear of what would happen next. Mike looked at me calmly and informed me that my water had broken. I started shaking…uncontrollably! I told Mike that I was “not ready for this yet”, but he said, “you are ready and you will have this baby soon.” Mike was my rock! He calmed me and we prayed for awhile…a sweet memory for me. So my water officially broke at 10:45.
Mike called our midwife and told her. She told us to call back when I start experiencing contractions…which was right after Mike hung up the phone. And it came hard and fast! I am so glad we had some ideas of what to expect. My contractions were 5 minute apart from the beginning. Mike started into rapid packing mode while coaching me and keeping the washer and dryer running constantly. We had piles of wet sheets and towels, yuck!
By 12:30 I was very obviously in labor with contractions coming every 4-5 minutes. By 2am I was vomiting after hard contractions. Time had flown by. We were determined to labor at home for as long as we could but I told Mike that we needed to go. Oh man, from my memory of it I was completely drained from throwing up five times, but I was on a mission to have the baby.
We arrived at OHSU about 3am. I had a great nurse who was breathing with me and helping me to stay calm until Mike got to the room from parking the car. I felt out of control to the point that I could not open my eyes. They started filling up the water birth tub and did a v-exam. I was 8 ½ cm dilated and my body was already transitioning. By 3:45 I was ready to push. The tub takes 1 hour to fill up. So I didn’t make it. I knew that he was coming and I got a physical break to mentally prepare. The only other time I remember opening my eyes was to see the midwives putting on their gowns and caps. Since the room had been kept dark they now turned a spot light on me to see what was going on. I will spare you all of the pushing details but I will never forget Mike on one leg on that wonderful nurse on the other with the midwives encouraging me.
Baby Jackson came at 4:26 with his right hand out above his head (the midwives had said he was like superman on a mission). He cried before he even came out – a little screech to help motivate me to get him out. Once he was out they laid him on my chest with Mike’s hand on his back. We nursed and had a sweet little bonding time. The End!
Born February 25th at 4:26am at OHSU, weight 6 lb. 10 oz. and was 19 1/2 inches.
We are thrilled to introduce to you our son Jackson Matthew Jacobs. We are cherishing every moment with him. We promise to post many pictures and videos for you. God Bless.

Immediately after Jack was born, he was placed on his mom's belly with his dad's hand on his back and covered in blankets to keep him warm. After a while he was cleaned up by the nurse who examined him. Here is a video of the exam.

Today, our first day home as proud parents, we had our first bathtime to get Jackson fresh and clean.

I had to post some polls for my blog readers to vote on while we wait for this baby. I am really feeling like a bottle of emotions right now and can't decide where I am going to land. I think that's the point...I am going to just continue feeling many different ways. For one, greatly anticipating with excitement. Next scared to death. Then...not ready. Followed by "ok...better get ready. Last, ahh...I want to cry!
I am having daily Braxton-Hicks contractions, cramping, backaches and overall physical fatigue. Baby Jacobs has had his head lodged in my pelvis for at least the past 3 weeks. But no noticeable movement or labor symptoms yet.
I am polling about the baby’s weight and due date because I am really wondering myself. For example, being that it is my first baby I am curious if all these daily symptoms are normal or if I am just very sensitive to my body. Friends who have recently had kids have said that he will come early for sure with all the pre-labor symptoms I've been having for weeks now. I think it might just be normal 3 trimester stuff. But I have wondering several times already if “this” is what labor feels like. Obviously not.
Also, I am not gaining weight much anymore and I feel like I am much smaller - belly wise - than I imagined I would be. Of course, I am told often that I am huge. So who knows? All a matter of perspective.
Anyway you look at it...I am still relatively comfortable and I think Baby Jacobs is too. My weekly visits to OHSU have been a great pleasure. Everything is checking out completely health, normal and risk free. At my next visit my midwife will check to see if I am dilating or effaced at all. Hopefully Baby Jacobs is starting to think actively about entering the world. Until then...we wait.
Had my 36 week appointment on Friday. Babies head is down and engaged in the pelvis which is a great news. Still growing but my overall gain has slowed down which is something they will continue to watch. My midwife on Friday suggested that I think about a water birth and says it is the most amazing physical environment for birth. I am going to talk to the trainer at week 38 about this and plan to use the water birth room in case I feel like trying it. I am a big time water person so I could see myself doing this. I feel each little movement at this point since my little baby does not have much room to move around now. I officially feel like we are at the countdown!

The last project of the weekend was making new curtins which I have to give my mom most of the credit for. They look amazing and it is a nice change of color and style.

I can hardly believe I am just weeks away from having this boy. I can say that we are ready for him (in many ways). The movement I am feeling now makes me think that baby Jacobs is preparing for karate class (constant and sometimes sharp jabs). We have completed the Bradley birthing classes and Mike is reading the book nightly while asking me funny questions like "what do you want to do while we are in the late 1st stage of labor?" Funny...I don't know...I've never done it before? I am definitely doing some funny things to prepare, like yesterday I bought the ingredients to bake a cake. People have told me that since your first baby takes awhile to come that you should take your mind off the early stages of labor by baking a birthday cake. I think I will bake cupcakes instead. Since we plan to stay at home as long as we can, I am curious if anyone has any laboring at home tips?
