Christmas Time

Christmas Eve. Our theme this year was a British Christmas most noticeably expressed in our meals. We waited in great anticipation for Mike and dad to finish dinner, served around 8pm. Prime Rib, Yorkshire Pudding, roasted woodland veggies and goat cheese potatoes were the highlights. Jack loved riding on his new rocking horse. The horse makes horsey "naaa" sounds and shakes its head when you touch its ears, which of course Jack loved.
Around bed time on Christmas Even, Jack got to snuggle a little with long time friends Walt and Sally.
Jack loved being around the Christmas Tree.
On Christmas morning Jack was surprised by many new toys. Although a part of our family theme this year was to hand make all the gifts althoguh, Jack fell outside that rule since it was his first Christmas. Another note to our British tradition was to pop our Christmas crackers, tell the jokes inside and then wear the enclosed paper crown for the morning. Great fun!

But Jack's favorite toy was a homemade kitty cat - door stopper toy that his Oma made him. (A little history)When Jack was about 6 months old he wandered into the bathroom and found the door stopper. He sat there and played with it for 5 whole minutes the first time - which was amazing considering that he normally didn't play with anything for more than a minute. Now at 10 months he can sit in our downstairs bathroom for literally 15 minutes and play with the door stopper. When he gets tired on the bonging noise he will kneel over and chew on the plasic around the end. It has become a big joke with his Grandma, Oma so she made him his own toy so he can pull back the springs and hear it go "BONG" all he wants. It's painted like a kitty.
After a wonderful Christmas dinner complete with a goose and all the trimmings we enjoyed the lighting on the Christmas pudding. This is a tradition we picked up from A Christmas Carol where they talk about making the best Christmas pudding in the whole town. It is an interesting bread like dessert with candied orange peels, currents, raisins and the usual egg and flour. I must say that it looked better on fire than it tasted later. :) Great effort - Mike.

Hope yours was wonderful, full of love and celebration of our Lord's precious gift!
